ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT PUBLIC NOTICE
CITY OF CAPE MAY
You are hereby notified that the Bray Family Partnership, owner of real property located at 720 Washington Street, Cape May, New Jersey 08204, has applied to the City of Cape May Zoning Board of Adjustment for variance relief, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:55D-70(d)(1) and N.J.S.A. 40:55D-70(c)(2), in order to open a bar/restaurant at the existing Southern Mansion property that will be open to the general public. No physical alterations to the exterior of the historic building are proposed through this application and the only exterior improvement that is proposed is an off-street parking area for ten (10) vehicles, as shown on the site plan submitted with this application. The Property is identified as Block 1078, Lot 2, on the Official Tax Map of the City of Cape May, New Jersey. The Property is located in the RS Zoning District and variance relief is being sought from the following sections of the City of Cape May’s Land Development/Zoning Ordinance: Chapter 525-19(A)(1) related to permitted uses in the RS Zoning District; Chapter 525-49(A) related to required paved parking surfaces; Chapter 525-49(C)(2) related to minimum required off-street parking spaces; and Chapter 525-60(D) related to required curbing for the proposed parking area.
Applicant further requests any, and all, other approvals, waivers, variances, or other forms of relief that the Board and/or its professionals deem applicable and necessary in order to secure approval of this application.
The City of Cape May Zoning Board of Adjustment on Thursday, May 28, 2026, will hold a public hearing on this application at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium, located at 643 Washington Street, Cape May, New Jersey 08204. All documents pertaining to this application are on file with the Planning/Zoning Board Secretary and are available for public review during regular working hours (M-F 7:30 am – 3:30 pm). Any interested party may appear at said hearing and participate therein in accordance with the rules of the City of Cape May Zoning Board of Adjustment.
